10th Anniversary Celebrations
Our guest will be the film director, Sir Alan Parker. His films have won nineteen BAFTA awards, ten Golden Globes and six Oscars. In 2013 he was awarded the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award “in recognition of outstanding achievement in the art forms of the moving image”, which is the highest honour the British Academy can bestow. He has selected our film for tonight.
Birdy (15) – Classic USA 1984 – Director: Alan Parker Two schoolboy friends, Al and Birdy, return from Vietnam. Al has severe injuries with Birdy seemingly emotionally scarred and unable to speak. Despite his own medical issues, Al travels to the institution where Birdy is being kept to attempt to get Birdy out of his near-comatose state. Running time 120 minutes.
