UK/Poland/USA 2023 – Director Jonathan Glazer
In 1943, Rudolf Höss is the Commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp. He, his wife and 5 children have been granted a large, elegant house in a beautiful garden filled with flowers and shrubs, with a small pool for the kids to enjoy. A few feet away, just the other side of the garden wall, is the camp, clearly seen and clearly heard. The Höss’ blissful family life seems completely unaffected. This must-see movie is an extraordinary juxtaposition of normality and appalling cruelty, and is a stark reminder of some aspects of human nature.
Running time 105 minutes. German/Polish/Yiddish with subtitles.
