The Beaconsfield Film Society has been screening films for our community since 2008 and is a not-for-profit organisation led by a dedicated volunteer committee. We show two films each month at weekends. Every 6 months a new programme is released which covers a variety of films, from mainstream cinema to small-budget productions which are not widely distributed but nevertheless well worth the effort. These are carefully selected by our programming group, who are all passionate about cinema.
The Society has about 500 members who enjoy the privilege of watching screenings in the purpose-built cinema at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in central Beaconsfield. We are very grateful to the NFTS for the use of their facilities. Each year, if funds are available, the society gives The Anthony Pickavance Bursary to a talented NFTS student nominated by NFTS.
The NFTS cinema has state of the art facilities:
- Dolby Atmos 7.1 Surround Sound System with enhanced targeted dialogue function as an aid to clarify the spoken word under difficult conditions or with unclear and low speech. The cinema has dozens of loudspeakers, computer-balanced for optimum performance to every part of the room.
- Projection using the latest Sony 4k projector with crystal clear and vibrant images up to 10 meter wide, which is custom built for cinemas such as this. Warning! A new bulb could be costly at just under £2,000.
- Air Conditioning
- 140 comfortable seats with plenty of legroom and excellent view
The National Film School, as it was originally called, opened in 1971 on the site of the former Beaconsfield Studios. World-renowned, the NFTS has launched the careers of many famous directors, producers and other key players in the film industry. Through the ensuing years, the school’s reputation has grown; not just in Britain but worldwide, and it is now considered to be one of the finest film, television and new media schools in the world, annually producing a steady stream of award-winning students, graduates and alumni.
