UK 2015. Director: Matthew Brown. Dev Patel’s film career has taken some wild turns, like A24’s The Green Knight and his own action-packed directorial debut Monkey Man. Before these, he was refining his craft in more traditional biopics: Lion (2016), and before that, The Man Who Knew Infinity. Here, Patel plays Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who attended Cambridge University during World War I. A fairly standard biopic on paper, but one that is elevated by both Patel and Jeremy Irons, who appears as Ramanujan’s mentor G. H. Hardy. Running time 108 minutes.
