Otto, a retired 63 year-old, has recently lost his beloved wife. He is growing more disillusioned by the day, and increasingly difficult and demanding of his neighbours, as the self-appointed intolerant guardian of the terraced row of houses where he lives. Just as he is about to take a life-changing decision, a new family move in nextdoor. The heavily pregnant mother and her two little girls try to make friends with this grumpy old man, but without success. Eventually, feelings thaw, and the situation gradually improves. This is a lovely feel-good movie, with Tom Hanks at his best, ably supported by the rest of the cast. Running time 126 minutes.
