Storyline

USA 1976. Director: Martin Scorsese.    Vietnam war veteran Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) begins work as a taxi driver, hoping that the nocturnal working pattern will alleviate his insomnia and depression. But ferrying passengers through the seedy underbelly of New York only compounds his problems. When he sets his sights on political campaigner Betsy (Cybill Shepherd) and embarks on a mission to save teenage prostitute Iris (Jodie Foster), his sense of worth becomes warped. This triggers his preparation for an assault on the evils of society. A mesmerising performance from De Niro. Running time: 114 minutes.
