Storyline

Prabha is a hardworking nurse whose husband moved to Germany shortly after their arranged marriage. Anu, her younger Hindu roommate and colleague at the nearby hospital, has a secret relationship with a Muslim man. The widowed Parvati, to whom Prabha lends a sympathetic ear, is being pressured by developers to leave her home. This trio’s lives intertwine with soulful grace in Payal Kapadia’s beautiful movie, one that portrays the unspoken layers of yearning and isolation of big city life. Payal Kapadia’s is the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix at Cannes. Running time 118 minutes. Hindi/Marathi/Malayalam with subtitles.
