An assured and watchable examination of the changing nature of gender and politics in modern-day Middle East. Maryam is an ambitious young doctor working in a small town clinic in Saudi Arabia. After Maryam is prevented from traveling to Dubai in search of a better job, a bureaucratic mix up leads her to stumble on the application for her local city elections and she decides to run. This causes her family and community to struggle to accept their town’s first female candidate. Arabic with subtitles. Running time: 104 minutes.
