West Side Story (12A)

Storyline

USA 2021.  A heartfelt adaptation of the classic original Broadway staged musical turned film.  Like the multi award winning 1961 original, this is a Romeo and Juliet inspired story of star-crossed love amidst warring street gangs, firmly set against the background of late 1950’s midtown Manhattan.

Beautifully shot and brilliantly interpreted, with updates from the 1961 version, the costumes and set design are visually stunning. The film was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and had six other Oscar nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose.  A great evening’s entertainment.
