France/Canada 2022 – Director Alice Diop
Powerful and thought-provoking film based on the true story of Fabienne Kabou, a French-Senegalese woman accused of killing her infant daughter by leaving her on Berck-sur-Mer beach to drown. The film follows Fabienne’s trial. Intrigued by the tragic story and the press comparing Fabienne to a latter-day Medea, the director Alice Diop attended her trial. Claire Mathon’s cinematography is stunning, and the performances by the lead actors are outstanding. Running Time 122 mins French/Italian with subtitles.
