Brazil, 2024 – Director Walter Salles
Fernanda Torres’ bravura performance leads this deeply moving family drama set in the height of ‘70s military dictatorship in Brazil. Torres plays real-life mother author and activist Eunice Paiva, who must keep her family together after the forced disappearance of her husband Rubens, a former congressman. The ensemble of the family is beautifully cast, with some excellent turns from the young actors. This is the first Brazilian film to win Best International Feature at the Academy Awards — a long time coming. Running time 135 minutes. Portuguese with subtitles.
